ND Football: The Draft Starts In Mobile

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is a by invitation bowl for Seniors who have declared for the NFL Draft. It annually features the country’s best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams representing the North and South that are coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams. This year Troy Pride Jr, Jalen Elliott, Alohi Gilman, Khalid Kareem (committed then decommitted) and Chase Claypool will represent the Fightin’ Irish on January 25th. Four defensemen and a wide receiver, all who will be looking to take their skills to the next level. The Reese’s Senior Bowl motto is #TheDraftStartsInMobile

Troy Pride Jr

Troy was a dual sport athlete at Notre Dame, Besides football, Troy was also a sprinter on the track team. Pride Jr had some difficulties in his Senior season. Teams went at him in an attempt to catch him on long yardage penalty. As the season went on, the situation seemed to improve as the defensive staff worked on improving his coverage thus reducing the penalties called against him.

Jalen Elliott

Jalen Elliott another Captain that was another selection to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Elliott was fourth in total tackles with forty nine. Elliott delivered what Coach Kelly and Coach Lea were looking for. He delivered the leadership that was needed off and on the field. Elliott is going to be a great fit on any defense in the NFL.

Alohi Gilman

Ever since USC last year, Alohi Gilman was a show in for Captain. Gilman’s seventy four tackles was third highest on the team. Gilman is definitely going to make an impact on Sunday’s in the NFL. His Navy experience is what taught him discipline and how to execute at a high level. The defense will have some big shoes to fill with his departure. Gilman was an absolute game changer for the Irish defense.

Chase Claypool

Chase Claypool was the only one I got incorrect for Captain. Though he did not have the “C” on his jersey, Claypool let his play do the talking. His play was exceptional in the second half of the season. Tearing up defenses, Claypool peaked at the right time. Claypool summed up his entire season in the Camping World Bowl when he impacted the game on offense and special teams. He also was named MVP. Remember, just because you were not voted a leader, doesn’t mean you can perform and lead like one. Claypool will excel at the next level like Miles Boykin.
