As signing day approaches Notre Dame fans are getting a sense of excitement and optimism as the off season rolls on. For Notre Dame fans there are three quarterbacks that are vying for for the starting roll. Irish fans have developed camps as the Ian Book era is now over.
All three quarterbacks have upside to being the next starting quarterback. Each athlete has their own unique skill set that they bring to the table. We will go through all three and why they should be the next starting quarterback for the Fighting Irish!
The Case for Jack Coan:
Jack Coan is a grad transfer from the University of Wisconsin. Injuries hurt his playing time at Wisconsin and was one of the main reasons for him leaving. This past season he didn’t start a game. Coan is 12-6 (8-3 against the BIG Conference Opponents) as a starter. Coan has played in 18 games seeing action in the 2018 and 2019 season with a 69% completion percentage and 3,278 passing for 23 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Wins over Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, and Miami (FL) highlight his career. Jack brings veteran leadership, wise decision making and a lethal deep ball. Something a lot fans feel Ian Book lacked. Coan looks to rely on his big game experience is the case for him being the starter for the Fighting Irish.

The Case for Drew Pyne:
Drew Pyne has spent his entire young career with the Fighting Irish. Pyne has seen minimal action as a starter. He saw time against South Florida, Pitt, Syracuse, and Alabama. Drew Pyne has the most knowledge of the play book and Notre Dame Offense. Pyne knows the passing schemes, and has chemistry with fellow Notre Dame players over the other two listed here. Pyne has been seen with a very calm and controlled demeanor on the field. Very little happy feet and the poise of a veteran. Pyne’s knowledge and experience with the Notre Dame offense is what him the best fit for the starting quarterback position.
The Case For Tyler Buchner:
Tyler Buchner looks to be the newest Notre Dame superstar as he comes into spring ball from the state of California. Buchner is the youngest of the bunch. Buchner has seen no playing at the College level. He has started his entire high school career as a varsity student athlete. Playing nine games as a starter on a varsity squad as a freshman is quite the accomplishment. Buchner is a legit dual threat quarterback. He has the passing numbers to boast a dangerous arm. Buchner is able to slice up a defense with his legs as well.
Buchner amassed 1,885 on the ground and passed for 4,980 thru the air. Many scouts deem him as one of the most coveted Quarterback recruits coming out of the 2021 class. 66th Nationally and fourth in the state of California. His dual threat ability is what makes him the man for the starting job at Notre Dame!
Notre Dame is in a very rare and great position to be in! All three guys mentioned above could take Notre Dame to new heights! The future is very bright! Cheers and GO IRISH!
