ND Football: Welcome To The NFL Jerry Tillery!

For those of you that have been to Nashville, you know it’s the place to party. Now move the NFL Draft to Nashville for three days, now you have an absolute party zone. Thursday night saw the life of 32 outbound student-athletes take the next step in their sports career. Twenty two student-athletes committed to being at the draft in Nashville. It’s a big risk showing up to the draft and not going on the first night. Some student-athletes choose to surround themselves with family and friends in a remote location still hoping to get that once in a lifetime call.

For 17 Notre Dame players, the start of the NFL Draft could not start fast enough. The not knowing is the hardest part for them. All the hard work of practice, off-season workouts, early morning drills, class work and exams, along with team meetings and nutritional regimens comes down to three nights. They don’t care where they go, they just want that phone call and an opportunity to continue. That’s what is at stake for all of these young men.

As time was winding down in the first round of the draft, Jerry Tillery got the phone call of a lifetime. The phone call came from the Los Angeles Chargers. Not much will change for Tillery as far as team colors, powder blue and yellow.

Location, Location, Location

As we said earlier, some players choose to go to the draft location, some players choose to go to a location and be with family and friends. Well Jerry Tillery probably picked the best spot to be in for the draft. That location is five hours behind the draft location in Nashville Tennessee. Jerry Tillery got the phone call from the Chargers in Hawaii. If you are going to get drafted into the NFL why not be in Hawaii. Getting the news at 5:30 PM means you can party all night long.

Welcome To The Chargers

This morning Jerry Tillery was formally introduced to the media. Greeting him at the door was former teammate Isaac Rochelle. There is no better way to start your career than having someone you can lean on and learn the ropes with than an old teammate

What’s Next

Tonight the draft continues with the second and third rounds will resume on ESPN at 7PM EST. Look for some more Irish ballers to come off the board tonight, possibly Drue Tranquill and Miles Boykin will learn their fate tonight. Hopefully some others as well.

Once again congratulations to Jerry Tillery and his family and friends.

Cheers and Go Irish! ☘🏈⚡
